[This is an older backup of Lumeniki at Referata. The most up-to-date version of Lumeniki will be found there. I use this site to test restoring backups of Lumeniki. Wiki-Site is my second choice for a wiki because unlike Wikia, we can choose our own license, and the site is probably more reliable than Editthis.info and doesn't make us use impossible CAPTCHAS for every edit, like Editthis.info does. -- Lumenos 19:06, 3 July 2009

Advantages of Wiki-site over Referata:

  • I've been having a lot of connection problems to Referata lately. I'm considering moving or copying Lumeniki here. Lumenos 03:09, 27 July 2010 (IDT)
  • Referata recently increased their free file space allowance but I don't think it is as large as Wiki-site's. This is the space available for uploaded files, such as images. Lumenos 01:28, 30 June 2010 (IDT)

Advantages of Referata over Wiki-Site:

  • Tech support has been superb and Referata. They even installed some extensions without an extra fee, as they charge here at Wiki-Site. (Edit-this was apparently unresponsive to a request to install an extension.) The tech support forum at Wiki-Site takes minutes to load, if it loads all. Luckily the backup problem has seemed to disappear by itself. This could have been a disaster if Wiki-Site were my primary wiki host. Perhaps this is because Wiki-Site seems to be dealing with a higher volume of "customers"/moochers. -- Lumenos 19:06, 3 July 2009

Some advantages of Referata and Edit-this.info over Wiki-Site:

  • Here at Wiki-Site, I have just tried 3 times to import a backup of the wiki at Referata. It did not import the backup and did not give any error message to indicate that it had failed. The same backup restored successfully to EditThis.info. [Update: I made another backup and this one was able to be restored here at Wiki-Site. Update 2: I restored another backup here.] If this is not fixed, I will never be able to use this wiki host for Lumeniki. Making AND testing restored backups is something many people do not test until it is too late. A lesson learned by many larger and more popular wikis, that did not survive the fall of ScribbleWiki. Many did not backup their own wikis and ScribbleWiki claimed that their backup service failed to deliver a working backup. The failure of Wiki-Site to be able to restore a backup is a large disadvantage unless I can find out why this happened, mainly to ensure that the exporting of backups from Wiki-Site, does not have a similar problem. Especially with complex and rarely tested backup software, you never really know if a backup is the same as the original and it sucks to find out when the original is gone or after you have made a bunch of new edits that would have to be merged (either quickly or losslessly) with an earlier version. -- Lumenos 19:06, 3 July 2009
  • I was not able to restore a backup with full history. It gave no error message here. When I tried to restore the same backup to Edit-this.info it gave this error message "Import failed: Loss of session data. Please try again." ~ Lumenos 20:16, 27 July 2010 (IDT)
  • I was able to restore a backup without full edit history to Edit-this.info. This backup failed to restore here at Wiki-Site with the message "Upload of import file failed; perhaps the file is bigger than the allowed upload size." ~ Lumenos 20:16, 27 July 2010 (IDT)
I think the problem may be that I am attempting to restore a backup that was taken before the last page was edited here at wiki-site. ~ Lumenos 19:29, 28 July 2010 (IDT)
  • Email alerts were not working here at Wiki-Site last time I checked. -- Lumenos 19:06, 3 July 2009
  • (I found the option to permanently disable the unusable "WYSIWYG" editor, so that is no longer a disadvantage.) -- Lumenos 19:06, 3 July 2009

Note the rest of this wiki is copied from the Referata Lumeniki, so some information (such as the privacy policy) may be assuming that you are reading the wiki at Referata.] -- Lumenos 19:06, 3 July 2009

Computer security advisory

This wiki may go unmoderated for long periods of time. Due to the low security standards of popular computer development, there are many browser exploits that may be used against you, if you open an untrusted webpage with an unmodified web browser. Current focus of Lumeniki1

Welcome to Lumeniki, friends and enemies. A lumeniki is a wikiforum and wikiblog for lumenism. Can your business, philosophy, or religion withstand the Lumenist Hotseat?

Topics currently covered by Lumeniki1, include the following:

Home economics

Solar power and heat

Lumenos has been in correspondence with an engineer by the name of Andy, who is who is testing parts of a new system for generating electricity from sunlight. Andy claims this will be quite less expensive than using the popular photovoltaic solar panels. His site is http://slamvalvemotor.com/ . Lumenos' dialogs with Andy can be found in the article "solar power and heat".

Converting waste into food

See converting waste into food.

Computer tutorials and reviews

A guide on how to boot a normal Windows installation as a virtual machine.

Lumenos has shelved the research into finding a way to control Linux by voice.

See also ergonomic projects.

Mp3 players

Lumenos is not sure whether it is in the interest of the world to be advertising things that may be contributing to lower quality of life for workers (or pollution). But ey has already made this review of the cheapest mp3 players in the world.

Philosophy

Other interests

Other interests may eventually be included such as: psychology, health, economics, and politics.

Wiki is not up to date

Lumenos has much more information and more accurate info, than will be found in this wiki. There is not much point keeping this all up to date if no one else is reading it. (It gives Lumenos a place to store notes but not as efficiently as note outlines written to emself.) If anyone else reads this site so you may make a request if you want more/clearer information on any topic. You can do so by clicking "edit", in which case your IP address will appear publicly on the history tab. If you create a login name, this name will appear instead. (You just need to type in a username and password to create one.) With an email address you can receive messages or alerts if/when I post a reply, by checking the box "Watch this page".
